Finding the Funding Needed to Preserve Coral Reefs
Ecologists and marine biologists have never refuted the benefits of coral reefs. The impact coral reefs have on marine diversity, economic value, and the environment is immeasurable, yet, they remain incredibly fragile to outside forces. Even small fluctuations in temperatures can destroy significant portions of a coral reef or one fishing vessel can destroy decades of progress made by coral reefs. So what can be done to ensure their survivability?
The main thing it comes down to is funding. The more funding for the conservation of coral reefs, the better the outcome, and this is due to several reasons. The simple fact is that countless of countries, government organizations, and non-profits are reluctant to fund conservation efforts that would result in the meaningful preservation of coral reefs around the world.
Many individuals simply misunderstand or do not know about the benefits of coral reefs and funding educational efforts will have a great impact on how people interact and conserve coral reefs around the world. The required funding that is needed to educate, conserve, and revitalize coral reefs is in the 10’s of billions of dollars, if not 100’s. Because of the large amounts of funding needed, it is understandable that many are hesitant or unable to fund the property efforts needed.
Aside from funding from governments, non-profits, and individuals, there is a new way that can raise millions in much-needed funding. The funding gap problem has been solved by a new, Dubai-USA based company called Planet Ocean Underwater Hotels. The company plans to provide USA states with their partnered nation with a movable Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel for their citizens to utilize and each named after that state.
To have equality for all, 4,000 guest rooms (annual 100% occupancy) are raffled as a means of fundraising which will help coral reefs around the world from dwindling.
The winners of the raffles have the option to accept $15,000 USD or receives an all-inclusive vacation in the Bahamas and will be staying at a state-of-the-art underwater hotel.
